Editorial standards

Independent Observer separates evidence, interpretation, and proposals. Public records identify sources and limitations where available. Working papers, concept previews, and books in editorial development retain their status labels; availability on this site does not imply peer review or a finished book.

Status labels

Status labels describe what a reader can use now; they do not grade the quality of an idea or substitute for independent review.

Concept preview

A short public outline introduces an idea that has not yet become a finished paper or publication.

In editorial development

The author is still developing, checking, structuring, or placing the work before release.

Research preview

A public research map presents a question, mechanism, or evidence boundary without claiming a completed study.

Author working paper / working paper

A dated author manuscript is available as work in progress and has not been externally peer reviewed.

Full working paper

The complete site reading edition of an authorized working paper is available, rather than only its catalogue summary.

Working-paper summary

A reader-facing summary points to an author working paper without reproducing or relabelling the complete paper.

Working-paper direction

A proposed research direction is mapped to a volume but has not become a released working paper.

Public author paper / public paper record

A public record points to an author paper and its available metadata without implying independent validation.

Public reading copy

A readable site edition presents public material while preserving the source, status, and stated limitations.

Reviewed public copy

A site reading copy has passed the recorded internal publication checks but has not thereby received external peer review.

Public summary

A short explanation describes a larger work without reproducing or releasing the complete source document.

Public learning exercise

An instructional example helps readers test a method and is not presented as new empirical evidence.

Editorial framework

A public guide explains how the site organizes or evaluates work rather than presenting a research finding.

Mapped research direction / research-map entry

A catalogue entry shows where a proposed line of inquiry belongs, but it is not itself a released paper.

Preview-only bounded text adaptation

A limited text adaptation is available for review or preview and is not included in the formal release feed.

Published bounded text adaptation

A limited, source-bounded text adaptation has passed the site’s recorded release checks and is publicly listed.

Preview article / preview-only article

These shorter interface labels refer to a preview-only bounded text adaptation that has not entered the formal release feed.

Published article / published document

These shorter interface labels identify material that has passed the site’s recorded release gate and is included in public discovery.

Editorial preview

An author-produced media or editorial item is available as a preview while further work may continue.

Media preview

A shorter interface label for an editorial preview or preview asset whose production may continue.

Reference document

A public document supplies source, archive, or contextual material and is not presented as a research finding.

Guide

A shorter interface label for an editorial framework or public summary that helps readers navigate the project.

Publication pending

The referenced item is not yet released for public reading on this site.

Corrections

To question a claim or report an error, use the contact page. Include the page address, the passage, and evidence supporting a correction. Public paper revisions are listed when recorded. An approved correction is marked in the affected page’s Revision history with its date, change, reason, and a link to the affected section. The same paper correction also appears in the revision log; software and interface changes appear in What’s New.

Privacy

Search runs in your browser after downloading a public index. Search queries are not submitted to a search server. Reading lists, tags, and reading status use local browser storage; you can clear saved items or export them. Imported reading lists are processed on your device.

The contact page prepares an email draft or copies text for your webmail. It does not submit a form to this website. Your email provider handles messages you send. Visiting the website still requires ordinary network requests to its hosting provider. External links open services with their own privacy practices.

Reader list and hosting

The reader-list links currently lead to Substack. This site does not collect the email address itself; Substack handles any subscription under its own privacy practices. The primary site is hosted on Vercel, so ordinary requests to that deployment are processed through Vercel’s infrastructure. A public, noindex fallback is also deployed through GitHub Pages; requests to that fallback are processed through GitHub’s infrastructure.

Analytics, cookies, and browser storage

The site ships browser-side event and article-scroll instrumentation, but it has no production analytics provider or outbound analytics transport. Its production event adapter is a no-op, so analytics events do not leave the browser. The site code does not set cookies. It does use local storage for reader-controlled conveniences such as saved reading, listening progress, and “new since your last visit,” plus session storage for the current search state. External services reached through links may use their own analytics, cookies, or storage.

Copyright and reuse

Public access does not itself grant permission to republish material. Follow any rights or licence notice attached to an item. Source material and linked third-party work may have separate rights. For permission or a rights concern, identify the material and intended use through the contact page.

TODO (owner): choose the default licence for site-authored material; until then, no additional default reuse licence is granted beyond any item-specific notice.

Independent Observer is a single-author research and media project by Siddhartha Harsh Wardhan. The site’s papers, previews, and adaptations have no external peer review unless a specific page explicitly records otherwise.
